The Palace always needs volunteers to work backstage on our shows. We can teach anyone to do just about anything your interested in.

We need volunteers to work on crew and other positions on our next musical, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Experience is helpful, but with a few exceptions, not required by any means. We can train you do almost anything. So if you’ve always wanted learn what it’s like to work backstage making all of it happen, please let me know. We need the following positions to be filled:

I’ve provided a brief description of the duties for each. If you’re interested, I can provide more details

Sound Engineer: This person must experience running and setting up mics, monitors for the actors and our band. The engineer will actively set levels and monitor the mix during each tech rehearsal and performance to ensure the best possible sound for the audience. There is a stipend for this position.

Seamstress: This person will work closely with Mary Ellen to repair, alter, and create any costumes that are not provided by Ramona. They will also make any alterations and repairs to costumes provided by Ramona during the dress rehearsals and performances. This person will not have to attend all rehearsals and performances, just check the reports for any notes. This person only needs to know how to sew by hand and with a sewing machine.

Properties Master or Mistress: This person will coordinate gathering, borrowing, building , and or purchasing all the props for the show. It’d be nice to have a couple of people take this on. We have lots of people who are very good at making and finding stuff,  but we desperately need someone to coordinate this process.

Lighting Design: This person will work Mary Ellen Butler and Ron Watson to create the lighting as needed for the show. Experience with some lighting is very helpful for this position.

Stage Hands / Running Crew: We need 2-3 people to work backstage during all the tech rehearsals and performances. The running crew will have a variety of tasks, from moving set pieces during the show, to operating our fly system,  to running the spotlight, to many others. No experience is necessary, we only ask that our running crew be able to follow instructions from our stage management team and have a great attitude.

Please forward this along to anyone you know who might be interested. We would not be able to produce all of our wonderful shows with the fantastic support we get from everyone.

When you reply, please put what position you’d be interested in doing. My email is ron AT austinshakespeare DOT org

Thank you,
Ron Watson
